Completed in 1873, the cable car system served as an alternative to horse drawn carriages as they had great difficulty climbing the steep San Francisco hills. The cable car was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1964 and is operational today. |

Alcatraz was originally used as a military prison during the Civil War. The small island was then built upon, to imprison some of the nation's most infamous criminals such as Al Capone and Pretty Boy Floyd. The prison was closed in 1963 and is now protected by the Golden Gate Recreation Area and may be visited by guided tour on a daily basis. |

From the Bay Bridge * Take the Freemont Street Exit and make a left onto Freemont Street (stay in
the left lane).
* Turn left on Pine.
* Turn right onto Van Ness Avenue.
* Follow Van Ness Avenue for approximately 1.5 miles and turn left onto
Lombard Street staying in the right lane.

The Golden Gate Bridge After crossing the golden gate bridge the road will turn into Marina Boulevard. (Do not take the Lombard Street Exit). Marina Boulevard will turn into Bay Street. Follow Bay Street Until You Get to Van Ness Avenue. Turn Right onto Van Ness Avenue. Follow Van Ness Until You get To Lombard Street and Make a right.

From the Golden Gate Bridge * After crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, the road will turn into Marina Boulevard
(Do not take the Lombard Street Exit).
* Marina boulevard will turn into Bay Street.
* Follow Bay Street until you get to Van Ness Avenue.
* Turn right onto Van Ness Avenue.
* Follow Van Ness Avenue until you get to Lombard Street and make a right.

To the Bay Bridge * When exiting the hotel parking lot, make a right turn.
* Make another right onto Franklin.
* Make another right onto Chestnut.
* Make another right onto Van Ness Avenue and follow Van Ness watching for
the signs

To Highway 101/San Jose * Same directions as above to the Bay Bridge, however, stay in the right hand
lane on the freeway heading towards the Bay Bridge as the freeway will split
to 101 South.
To Highway 280 South * Follow the directions to Highway 101 and take the 280 Exit off of Highway
101.
To the Golden Gate Bridge * As you leave the parking lot, make a right onto Lombard Street which will take
you directly to the Golden Gate Bridge. (101 North)
